What’s On in Queenstown – Winter 2022
Winter Festival – 7 – 10 July 2022
A weekend of free and ticketed events celebrating all there is to love about the snow season. For the last few years, Queenstown’s famous winter fest has been put on the back burner, and so there is much excitement for the first big event since 2019. Although this may not be the week-long celebration we once knew, there is certainly a lot on offer for locals and visitors alike.
From live music and night markets, to fireworks across Lake Wakatipu, the Winter Festival reflects the diversity of our community and invites guests to celebrate our beautiful surroundings.
Wrap up warm and gather your family for a fun-filled weekend!
Coronet Peak 75th Anniversary 17-21 August
Celebrate Coronet Peak’s 75th year of operating as New Zealand’s first commercial ski area. From humble beginnings, that required a long walk up to a single rope tow, the mountain has evolved over its 75 years and truly solidified its position as the birthplace of commercial skiing in New Zealand.
Join them in a weekend of celebration with mountainside champagne brunches at Heidi’s Hut, an alumni get together and live music, all culminating in a grand gala dinner on the 20th of August to share stories and revisit a time gone by.
For those who are unable to attend any of the events, take the time to watch their anniversary video series an reminisce with our local families and fans of Coronet Peak.
Winter Pride 26 Aug – 6 September
Celebrate inclusivity, diversity, and community at the Southern Hemisphere’s largest Winter Pride event. An annual pilgrimage for the LGBTQ+ community, there is something on offer for every kind of traveller. Experience the vast array of pride filled events, from luxurious parties and drag bingo, to ski races and comedy nights, bringing laughter to the streets and lighting up the town.
Every event focuses on promoting creativity and community, but also on giving back by supporting local and youth charities across the region.
Peak to Peak Challenge – 10 September
Now in its 27th year, the Peak to Peak is New Zealand’s biggest multi-sport one-day challenge, held in Queenstown every year. Taking individuals, tandems, and relay teams on a tour of Queenstown, the five stages link The Remarkables and Coronet Peak, with a visit to Queenstown Beach along the way.
With competitors using a variety of disciplines, including skiing, snowboarding, biking and kayaking, the 44km race highlights the best of Queenstown and is bound to create a memorable day of fun in the adventure capital of New Zealand.
